The Golden Duck Tournament

Regulations

The ‘Golden Duck’ is a friendly tournament. More than the final result, what counts is the spirit in which the matches are played.

The matches shall be played according to the MCC (ICC) Laws of Cricket with the following alterations.

1. Each team shall be composed of eight players.
2. The matches shall be of two innings of 12 overs each and shall last a maximum of two hours, one hour per innings.
3. No player shall bowl more than two overs in any single match.
4. Any batsman reaching 40 runs shall be required to retire, closing his innings for that match not being able to recontinue it, even in the event of all the other batsmen being out.
5. No substitutes will be allowed during the course of any match unless there be a serious accident. The substitutes will not be able to bowl. The wicket-keeper shall not bowl unless at least two players of the team have had to be replaced after serious accidents and will then himself be replaced by one of the players present on the field from the start of the match.
6. The wide-ball law will be adhered to with extreme strictness. Absolutely no intimidatory bowling will be allowed. Any delivery arriving at the batsman on the full above the waist and any bouncer passing over the level of the batsman’s shoulder, in both cases standing upright at the crease, shall be considered a no-ball and immediately signalled as such by the umpire.
7. The winning team of each match shall receive 4 points, no points being assigned to the losing team. In the case of a tie each team shall receive 2 points.
8. If two teams have the same number of points after the preliminary stages are completed the match between them will decide their respective positions. Where there is a tie among all three teams in one of the preliminary pools, i.e. each team having won a single match, the teams will be divided according to (and in this order):
a) the total number of wickets taken;
b) the difference between the total number of wickets taken and the number conceded;
c) the total number of runs scored.
9. There will be a 5 minute interval in between the two innings of each match and in between each match.

10. One cricket ball for all the matches, per team, and cricket shirts will be provided by the organisers. Each club will then be responsible for its ball.
11. No studded cricket boots are allowed on the pitch
12. Each team shall provide a scorer. The organisers will endeavour to ensure that umpires are available for the matches but all volunteers will be welcome.
13. In the case of rain or other problems, the organisers (in the person of the Idle C.C. President) will be responsible for finding a solution.
